Can I sponsor your spouse, partner and child?

If you are able to meet the eligibility criteria listed below, you may sponsor your dependent children.

Age: The candidate must be at least 18 years old.

You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident to enter the country. You must reside in Canada if you are a citizen of Canada, If you have a Canada PR and live outside of Canada, you cannot sponsor your child.

Financial undertaking: You must also guarantee that you will provide for your kids financially for a certain period amount of time. This time is regarded as promising at the moment.

Length of Undertaking: please take notice that the duration of the undertaking is determine by the children’s ages. The undertaking will last for ten years, or until the kid reaches the age of 25, whichever occurs first, if they are younger than 22.

Income Requirement: Although there is no minimum income requirement to sponsor a dependent child, your application will be taken seriously if the sponsor meets the eligibility criteria below.

What are the requirements to sign up as a sponsor?

The following prerequisites must be satisfied in order for the application to sponsor their spouse, partner, or dependent child:

Be at least 18 years.

Must be a citizen of Canada, a permanent resident of Canada, or someone who has been recognized as an Indian by the Canadian Indian Act.

Must demonstrate that they are not receiving social assistance due to conditions unrelated to a disability.

Any person that is sponsored must have their basic necessities met.

The following are some circumstances that could prevent an application from sponsoring their spouse, partner, or child:

Below eighteen.
If the applicant is not a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or an Indian person as defined by the Canadian Indian Act, or if the applicant will not be residing in the nation when the individuals they wish to sponsor become citizens.
If the applicant is a transient, i.e., a person who is temporarily residing in Canada for the purpose of traveling, learning, or working.
If the candidate’s application to become a permanent residence is still pending.
If the applicant is unable to provide for the sponsored individual financially.

Depending on the case to case, several documents and forms may be needed. Therefore, be very careful when collecting your documents; if you submit an application that isn’t complete, CIC will return your application to you without evaluating it, and the application fee will not be refunded.
